Our Philosophy
In 1987, the United Nations Brundtland Commission defined sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
Sustainable fashion is a term that describes efforts within the fashion industry to reduce the impact on the environment, protect workers producing textiles and garments and uphold animal welfare. It considers the entire product lifecycle and encompasses a wide range of factors including cutting CO2 emissions, addressing overproduction, reducing pollution and waste, supporting biodiversity and ensuring that garment workers are paid a fair wage and have safe working conditions.
At CE Nice, our core philosophy and mission is to challenge conventional methods of the past to support a sustainable future. While designing our collection, we take current social and environmental concerns into consideration by taking a different approach. Some of our practices include using responsibly sourced, organic or recycled textiles from reputable suppliers, producing very small batch productions of 6-12 garments of each style at a time, supporting local designers and small villages in India, and using our small leftover fabric pieces to make custom one of a kind mosaic fabrics for our clothing to support our zero waste effort.
Our Textiles
Our signature fabric is an organic cotton sateen which we use throughout our line as well as for the linings of the garments and accessories. Agri-chemicals used in conventional cotton production can cause ecological damage and adversely affect the surrounding environment and wildlife, as well as the health of the agricultural and fabric processing workers. This is why we have chosen to exclusively use organic cotton in our woven and knit garments. We also have collections crafted from organic linen, organic cotton denim, delicate voile, peace silk, luxurious hemp silk charmeuse and organic cotton jersey knit. Other specialty fabrics we use include recycled mesh, recycled soda bottle PET fleece and eco leathers made from pineapple and cactus.
We pursue fashion with the motto of the three no’s “no leather, no feather, no fur,” and are always on the lookout for new advancements in eco-friendly textile alternatives from reputable sources. We do have a small collection of wool sweaters with a guarantee that all of the animals are humanely treated and raised. The same care and consideration we have for the health of our planet and ecosystems also includes the well-being of the animals on it.
Not only is our clothing made from environmentally sustainable fabrics, they are colored with low-impact synthetic dyes that adhere to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, a globally regulated safety standard classification. In addition to our dyed fabrics, we also offer many designs and styles using undyed organic color-grown textiles in their natural color, which are rich cream tones with hues of brown, green and vanilla. This results in the ultimate green fashion for your wardrobe.
Every garment we produce is water washable at home or steam wet washable at an eco-friendly green cleaner that uses non-toxic biodegradable soaps. None of our garments require dry cleaning due to the harsh nature of the chemicals used, which are toxic to humans and often contaminate the environment and groundwater.
Just as our brand is committed to sustainability, we are also committed to transparency and are proud to share where our materials come from. We use many fabrics that are sourced and milled in the United States, including our organic cotton denim, organic mock leno, sport canvas cotton, organic cotton jersey knit, pinpoint oxford and natural color-grown organic cotton crepe. We also source fabrics from other regions in the world, like our organic linen that is milled in India from European sourced linen and our peace silk (which is crafted without killing the silk worms) that is sourced and milled in India. Our hemp silk charmeuse blend fabric used in our glam collection is sourced from China through an eco-based vendor in the United States.
Our Gratitude
We extend a very special thank you to all the farmers and mills that provide our fabric for their hard work, commitment to sustainable practices and investment of time and capital to produce these eco-friendly textiles that have been made available for our clothing production. We have a profound gratitude and appreciation for our long term partners and suppliers which include:
Cotton Plus, Fox Rich Textiles, Sew Ecological, Green Textiles, Cone Mills, Swift Mills, Doran Mills, the organic cotton farmers of Texas and California, Fox Fibers of the US, A&A Eco Products, Akkanath Organic Cotton, Aura Herbal Textiles of India, and the organic cotton farmers and peace silk producers of India.
Without them, our mission of protecting the planet through fashion would not be possible.
